5 Ways to a Winter Ready Home

Date: 01-06-2021

Having just shivered through Melbourne’s coldest May morning in more than 70 years, we think it’s safe to say that Winter is well and truly here. Whilst we all layer up in our winter coats and puffer jackets, have you thought about the changes you can make to your home décor to create a cosy, warm refuge (to enjoy even in another lockdown).

  1. Bring out the winter quilts.

There’s nothing worse than not being able to fall sleep because you’re just too cold. As we expect temperatures to continue to plummet over the next few months, it may be a good idea to bring out or invest in a warm winter quilt. In our Australian Made Easy Rest Range, our Wool Blend & 100% Wool 500GSM quilts have been independently tested and rank as our warmest, winter weight quilts.

Our Wool Blend Quilt has the perfect combination of fibre so the wool creates a layer of warm air and the premium polyester ensures this warmth is held in. The 100% Wool 500GSM Quilt naturally regulates body temperature to keep you comfortable all year round, whilst offering amazing warmth in the Winter months.

Don’t forget you can always navigate to the Choosing the Right Bedding section of our website. We understand that choosing the right bedding is essential but can also be overwhelming. That’s why we have developed our very own guide to choosing the perfect bedding, so you can enjoy that perfect night’s sleep.

  1. Add throws and layer everything.

We know it’s not feasible for everyone to have a Winter & Summer weight quilt to pull out when the seasons change. Whilst we would recommend one of our Wool Quilts for year round comfort and temperature regulation, adding warmth with a snuggly blanket or throw to the end of your bed will certainly help get you through the colder months.

We are always layering up our clothes and there’s no reason we cannot do the same thing with our homes. Now that we have officially reached the Australian Winter months, pull out all of your blankets and throws and layer them around your house. Styling blankets over the couch arm, on the back of dining chairs and in decorative spaces like baskets means being cosy and warm is never too far away. Whether you’re settling down on the couch to watch the footy, a good movie or working from home, you will be grateful that you have taken the time to layer different rooms in your home.

  1. Use Rugs.

Speaking of layers, there’s nothing worse than stepping out of bed or off the couch onto cold wooden / tiled floors. With End of Financial Year (EOFY) sales looming, it’s the perfect time to purchase a rug. Try using different textures such as woven, fluffy or knitted to add a level of cosiness to your space.

  1. Enjoy the flickering of an open flame

If you’re lucky enough to have an open fire place in your home, it is your time to shine. There’s quite literally nothing better than lighting a fire and listening to it crackle away as it fills your home with a natural warmth. Though, for many of us this simply is not reality. We suggest lighting candles in various rooms in your home to give a gentle flicker of light and instantly add warmth.

  1. Create a New Winter Colour Scheme

Your Winter colour scheme is a great way to break through the dull, dreary days outside. Accent your home with warm, primary colours against a muted pallet. Bringing colour into an existing neutral space adds personality and character to your space. In 2021, Pantone gave us a number of surprising colours for 2021 to “encourage paradoxical artful statements. Mixing playful with practical…”.  The Illuminating Yellow for example, offers the promise of a sunny day which is something we could all use a lot more of during the Winter months. Pair this with the assuring and reliable Ultimate Grey and your Winter colour scheme has just started to come to life.
